BABBAR SHER
HONOURS PROJECT, 2020
How can traditional and cultural Indian sounds be utilised in synthesis with western hip-hop, to effectively juxtapose appropriation and the colonialist imagination? How does this evoke a contemporary and non-orientalist representation of Indian culture in both music and media?
The project was aimed to explore the colonial impact on South-Asian identities and artistic identities through music and visualisation. And to redefine and authenticate “Indian Music” in synthesis with contemporary frameworks, through personal & artistic cultural identities.
